"549 Natural Chimneys, near Mount Solon, Va. 45318" with another caption (presumably an error) inked off the top at the printer's, unused linen postcard, printer's guide marks at the upper corners look like creases but they are not. Cards like these were used as a temporary supply until the printer could get it right, then discarded (so they are not particularly common). Scene is now in Natural Chimneys Regional Park. $3.75 v(m)er

"Cathedral Spires" black & white woodcut with signed James D. Smillie art on an 8-3/4"x12" page from an 1872 book that was disassembled due to water damage. Fortunately in this case, the water stain is only light & 1/2" into the top border (not the art), so matting when framing would easily obscure it. "Elephant's Feet Rocks, near Eddy Farm, Pa." postcard printed in the USA for the Valentine-Souvenir Company of New York, mailed JUL 30 1914 (almost complete N.Y. & SALAMANCA TR1 R.P.O. RMS hand cancel) to Mr. Ernest Frye in Delaware Ohio, minor corner & edge wear, light toning on back. Surprisingly hard to find. The closest we came to finding it in our Internet search was only one instance of the same view but whose red caption on top was much wider. Where is Eddy Farm? Google could not find it in Pennsylvania! $10.00 r

GIANT'S CAUSEWAY (NORTHERN IRELAND)
Recently purchased, this collection still has all of its better cards, and includes a good variety of basaltic rock formations, most shown in color:
Three of these postcards have been posted, and the others are of similar production, so we have used their range of dates for the collection. Lovingly stored for decades in an old album, there is no badly damaged card. Minor defects from album contact--such as light impressions at the corners, or toning of the corners--can be expected.

Hotel" showing the rocks nicknamed witches altar & devil's den in the Harz mountain range in western Prussia, real photo Postkarte from Cramers Kunstanstalt in Dortmund, very late usage at Graceton Pennsylvania, slight oxidation & curl to the paper, small upper corner crease & short indent both not into the image, other edge wear is minor. $2.75 pmdr
"Jubiläums-Postkarte 1797-1897 / Gruss / von der Bastei Sächs / Schweiz" in Germany, color multiview on undivided back with 3 scenes-- Basteifelsen, Basteibrücke & Wald-Villa; much corner & edge wear, very late usage at Prairie Hill Texas, thin but browning tape reinforcement along lower edge (nowhere near images), no writing on front. Sächsische Schweiz or Saxon Switzerland is in Eastern Germany. The first mention of this rock formation in travel literature was in 1797--the anniversary referred to in the caption. $9.00 gre
