used written in hand on the back by the photographer Daniel Boone Carlock, who also noted
the quantity ordered--25. Good focus & composition, as you would expect from a proof,
paper browned a bit with age, small dark spot in sky from a drip of chemical when printed.
'Groveport' is also hand-written on the front, but the photographer underlined the Ohio in
'Groveport Ohio' on the back. There is no other Groveport in the US, so apparently he did
this to emphasize that his customer wanted the state name spelled out. Literally unique,
belongs in a museum. $35.00 omp

RUSSIA,
OHIO. "Main Street Russia O. Thomas" in Shelby County Ohio,
including an auto, signs at the left (Sun Brother's World's Progressive Shows
Monday Sept., honest scrap, ...); unused sepia-tone Cyko real photo post card,
heavy toning spared the front but not the back, minor corner rounding, oxidation
consistent with age. Sun Brother's was a 3-ring circus with elephants having
active routes for daily shows 1911-1913 which helps to date this image. This
type of advertising in small towns was a common way to publicize one-day
circus shows in nearby communities, but the one-day nature of the
corresponding events meant that most were soon plastered over with other
notices. So its is a treat to actually see such a poster on a real photo
postcard. Sold but front
