"788 -- Le Saut basque" or 'saut de basque' as the dance step is also known as, illustrated on a circa-1920 carte postale with green back, late usage at Soham New Mexico (2 different postal markings), a little toning near the back borders, 2 small water spots in the address area. The turning aspects & the characteristic foot elevation to the knee (foreground) are particularly well conveyed because each dancer is in a different part of the move. Probably a scene from or near Ciboure in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of France. We have seen reproductions of this postcard offered as high as 39 Euros, but why not own the real thing from us for only $7.50. df(c)

"Admiralspalast. / Ellen Dallerup / in dem Eisballett 'Flirt in St. Moritz." / 69 / PHOT. WILLINGER BERLIN" exquisitely hand-tinted (and, hence, unique) real photo postcard with numerous paste beads applied, unused, good edges, slight oxidation near the front corners consistent with age. The Admiralspalast is an unusual theater in Berlin, built 1911, which included a large skating rink on which ice ballets & shows were performed. When not in use, the ice rink could be covered over with a wooden floor for dancing. EGGERT / RIGA" sepia-tone card (the size of a regular postcard) with photographer's embossed imprint in 2 lines at the bottom as quoted here; showing her en pointe & in costume, undoubtedly circa 1922-1923 to publicize her availability as ballet teacher after she left the Maryinsky Balley for a position as choreographer at the National Riga Opera. "Jimmy Catheart at Bledsoe Beach - Lake James" showing the band, real photo postcard with high contrast & good focus, mailed at Angola Lake James Rural Station JUL 22 1935. Truly rare: when we searched the Internet we could find no other offers, no recorded sales & no one exhibiting it. The name of the locale is often seen as Bledsoe's Beach Resort, and this would be inside the dance hall that was there. The property was auctioned in mid 2011. Any photograph of this band is rare. The name of this venue is sometimes seen as Beldsoe's Beach.
